What is regenerative braking?

Regenerative braking (or regen) is a method of charging an electric car's battery by using the car's momentum to turn the motors and feed a charge back into the battery and extend your overall driving range. In most EVs you can adjust the level of regeneration you get when you lift off the accelerator – you can choose between settings that barely slow the car down at all (no regenerative braking) all the way up to 'one-pedal' driving modes, which feels as if you've pressed the brakes when you lift off the accelerator.

The more aggressive modes will put most energy back into the battery, but on long cruises you might find it more comfortable using a lower level of regen to help you cruise more smoothly.
