Extended Warranty
Every car we sell is covered by a free three-month warranty if it’s no longer covered by the manufacturer’s original warranty. For extra peace of mind, we’ve also created the Motorpoint Extended Warranty – an optional extra that’s designed to cover you and your car against mechanical and electrical problems, breakdowns, failed MOTs and more.
You can purchase a 1, 2, 3, or 4-year Motorpoint Extended Warranty, which will start the day after your car’s three-month Motorpoint Warranty or the manufacturer’s warranty expires. You can also buy the Motorpoint Extended Warranty for Commercial Vehicles.
What’s included in the Motorpoint Extended Warranty
The Motorpoint Extended Warranty covers you for:
- All mechanical and electrical parts, with VAT included and no cap on labour charges
- An unlimited number of claims
- A claim limit of the cost of the vehicle per claim (e.g. if you paid £17,000 for your car, the maximum you can claim for a warranty item is £17,000)
- Repairs to all included parts at any VAT-registered garage
- 60 days European mechanical and electrical cover
- Cover for consequential damage (e.g. if a part breaks and subsequently damages another part of your car, the warranty will cover both items)
- MOT test guarantee – £750 of cover to help your car pass its MOT if it fails (one claim per year)
- 24-hour breakdown assistance with priority for vulnerable travellers
- Up to seven days hire car contribution
Warranty claims can be made immediately after you collect your car, and your breakdown cover also starts immediately.
Please note wear and tear is excluded from the warranty cover.
How long does the warranty last?
You can purchase a 1, 2, 3 or 4-year Motorpoint Extended Warranty, which will run after your three-month Motorpoint Warranty expires, or when the remainder of your manufacturer warranty expires. As a result you may see a 15, 27, 39, or 51-month warranty on your invoice.
What does the breakdown cover include?
The breakdown cover includes:
- Roadside recovery (including running out of fuel). Your car will be repaired on the spot if possible or it will be moved to the nearest garage, your home or your destination
- Home assist. Your vehicle will be fixed at home (or within one mile) or taken to the nearest garage
- Emergency overnight accommodation contribution of £25 per person for one night for you and up to five passengers
- Caravans and trailers up to 23ft long will be towed with your vehicle at no extra cost

How to keep your warranty valid
All you need to do is keep your car serviced in line with the manufacturers’ guidelines, and you must report the fault no later than 14 days after it was discovered. MOT insurance claims must be made within 30 days of the MOT failure.
If your vehicle has no service history, or the service history is incomplete, the car must be serviced by a VAT-registered garage within 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever is sooner) from the date you bought the car.
It must then be serviced in line with the manufacturer’s specifications, or every 12 months or 12,000 miles (whichever is sooner).

The price of the Motorpoint Extended Warranty varies depending on the value of your car. See the table below for costs. The Motorpoint Extended Warranty cost can be rolled into your finance agreement to help you spread the cost.

Is a Motorpoint Extended Warranty worth it?
A Motorpoint Extended Warranty is a great way to avoid expensive repairs on your car. A one-year warranty from Motorpoint costs from £349 for a passenger car which, considering a modern gearbox repair can cost anywhere from £1,500 to £6,000, means it could save you a bundle down the line. The average cost of a repair to a starter motor currently ranges from £240 to £1,570, while an alternator could set you back £1,500.
