Motorpoint opens its 20th store in Ipswich and creates up to 30 new jobs
Motorpoint, the UK’s largest independent retailer of nearly new cars and vans, opens its 20th store in Ipswich in May 2023. The Ipswich store opening will strengthen Motorpoint’s footprint in the East of England, where it already operates a store in Peterborough.
The new store, located on West End Road, just across the river from Portman Road Stadium, gives drivers in the Suffolk region and wider East Anglian area their first taste of Motorpoint’s commitment to unbeatable prices. The product range at Motorpoint Ipswich will include all engine types - EV’s, PHEVs, petrol and diesel options – and include car makes and models from small city cars to larger family cars, SUV’s and performance cars.
All Motorpoint vehicles are specially selected to meet local customer demand and meet strict quality standards.
Motorpoint’s commitment to providing a high-quality customer experience also extends to the people it recruits. The opening of the new Ipswich store will create up to 30 jobs in areas from vehicle sales, customer service and vehicle preparation.
Motorpoint’s Regional Sales Director, Chris Goodison is confident the new store will prove a huge hit with used car buyers across the Ipswich, Cambridgeshire and wider East Anglian area.

It took just minutes of the doors opening for the new team to clock-up their first sale, with Karen James from Ipswich part exchanging her old Ford which she’d had for seven years for a 2019 Ford Eco Sport.
Karen said: “I am absolutely delighted with my new car. I’d been looking for a low mileage nearly new replacement for my old Ford and had been searching for some time, but with no luck. I had seen that the new Motorpoint store had opened and so dropped in on opening day and was delighted to find my perfect car so quickly and easily. The staff were great and made the entire process of part exchanging really smooth – and of course the chocolate and flowers were a lovely extra touch on the day.”
Motorpoint marks official opening of new store with Ipswich's new Mayor
Recently appointed Mayor of Ipswich, Mrs Lynne Mortimer, joined the Ipswich team to perform an official blue ribbon cutting ceremony to officially mark the store’s opening.
On opening the store, the Mayor of Ipswich, Mrs Lynne Mortimer commented: “I am delighted to welcome Motorpoint to Ipswich and to officially open their new store. It is splendid news that in the company’s 25th anniversary year they have arrived in our town and will be employing around 30 people from the local area. The new store looks great, and I wish Motorpoint every success.”
Simon Castle, Motorpoint Ipswich’s General Sales Manager, said: “We were absolutely delighted that the Mayor of Ipswich accepted our invitation to come and celebrate our official opening. It was a really uplifting occasion which our staff thoroughly enjoyed. We feel very proud to be part of Ipswich and the wider Suffolk area.”
As part of the store’s opening activity Motorpoint donated funds to St Elizabeth Hospice giving a £1000 boost to support the charity as well as sponsoring the charity’s Midnight Walk 2023 which took place on Saturday May 20th.

With their help, we aim to improve life for people living with progressive illnesses throughout East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney. This £1000 donation along with the additional £1000 support Motorpoint has provided in support of our annual Midnight Walk event ensures that we can continue to support over 3,185 patients and their families every year, ranging from 14 years old and upwards and demand for our care is constantly growing.
“As we need to generate over 70% of our funding ourselves, we rely on the generosity of local businesses like Motorpoint to enable us to continue to provide our care free of charge to patients and their families in your community, today, tomorrow and for years to come. “
