Cupra's given the Formentor SUV a bold new look, more power and more powerful brakes. See what else is new.
Cupra has just unveiled a bold new facelifted version of its Formentor coupe-SUV. This is more than just a skin-deep refresh of the popular sporty car thanks to new tech and engine options, so read on to find out what's changed.
2024 Cupra Formentor design
It's fair to say Cupra's torn up the rulebook with the latest version of the Formentor, which gets a completely redesigned front end that mirrors that upcoming Terramar SUV. Cupra's created a standalone design house called Cupra Design to fashion its cars (and merchandise…), and it's developed a new 'shark nose' face for the 2024 Formentor.
New matrix LED headlights featuring triangular daytime running lights flank a sharply creased front bumper line, beneath which you'll find a whole host of slatted grille pieces and angular air dams – it looks a bit like an explosion in a triangle factory, but it's unmistakeably Cupra and a step on from the older car.
Around the back, the Formentor keeps its signature full-width light bar, which now includes an illuminated Cupra badge. The taillights have been redesigned to mirror the triangle motif from the headlights, but overall the rear isn't as much of a departure from the previous Formentor.
There are two new matt colour options for the Formentor: Century Bronze and Enceladus Grey.
Cupra Formentor facelift interior
It's all change inside the new Formentor. There's a redesigned centre console and the cabin features far more recycled materials than before, but the technological star of the show is the new 12.9-inch central touchscreen. It's based on the system we've used and loved in the new Skoda Superb, but with a moody bronze Cupra look to the graphics.
Beneath the touchscreen sits Volkswagen Group's controversial temperature and volume sliders, which are thankfully now backlit should you, y'know, dare to change the cabin temperature at night.
Along with a redesigned digital dashboard, Cupra has also fitted the new Formentor with a thumping new 12-speaker sound system developed by Sennheiser.
2024 Cupra Formentor engines and plug-in hybrid options
The new Cupra Formentor gets a new more powerful 333hp 2.0-litre petrol engine option (up 23hp) stolen from the latest Audi S3, which means it gets clever torque-splitting technology for more agile handling and a drift mode. Expect a 0-62mph time of around 4.9 seconds. A big six-piston Akebono brake kit will also feature, likely on the highest trim levels.
Perhaps more interestingly is a new plug-in hybrid option for the Formentor, now packing 272hp (up from 245hp), with a big increase in electric-driving range from about 30 miles to more than 60 miles on a charge.
2024 Cupra Formentor price and release date
The new Cupra Formentor will be available to order soon, with first deliveries expected later in 2024. The price hasn't been announced, but expect it to cost a shade more than the outgoing model at just over £35,000.
