2027 Volkswagen ID.Every1: price, specs & release date

Cheap electric cars are starting to show up in force.

The Volkswagen ID.Every1 concept follows in the footsteps of the recently revealed Hyundai Inster, Fiat Grande Panda, Renault Twingo, Leapmotor T03 and Dacia Spring – although you’ll have to wait a couple of years if you want the VW version.

When it launches as a production car, you can expect the ID.Every1’s styling to be slightly toned down a little – the concept rides on 19-inch alloy wheels; the production car’s wheels should be smaller – but the main vibe of characterful yet timeless styling will stay. Expect a new name for VW’s baby EV, too – something a bit less clunky than the name of this concept car.

VW is promising a starting price of €20,000 in European markets, which equates to around £17,000. We expect UK buyers might be charged £20,000 or more, however.

That’s going to buy you a 95hp electric motor, an 80mph top speed and a range of ‘over’ 155 miles. Good figures for a city-focused car, but hardly pushing the game on. After all, the discontinued Volkswagen e-Up offically managed 163 miles on a charge. Hopefully there’ll be a bigger battery option for longer-distance drivers.

The front-wheel-drive ID.Every1 is 3.88 metres long, which puts it squarely between the Up and Polo. Being bigger than the Up gives the ID.Every1 a larger boot – an impressive 305 litres.

Inside, the dashboard is home to a large touchscreen and little else. A powerful processor should ensure instant responses, and over-the-air updates will keep the VW running the latest software. This could help to future-proof the car and keep it on sale for longer than the average car lifespan.

The ID.Every1 is one of nine new models due by 2027, with three other cars set to use the same front-driven MEB platform. That’ll include the Polo-sized ID.2All (again, likely to be renamed before production), plus a fast GTI version and an ID.2-based SUV to replace the Volkswagen T-Cross.
