New 2025 Mini Convertible: price, specs & release date

More of a heavy facelift than an all-new car, but the Mini Convertible is about to join the range again.

Available to order now, the new Mini Convertible starts from £26,200 and first deliveries are going to be just in time for the start of spring 2025.

The front end styling is shared with the Mini hatchback, with a clean, shaved look and the traditional big circular headlights. At the back, it looks more like the last-generation Mini Convertible, with Union Jack tail-lights instead of the hatchback’s sharp, triangular lamps.

Inside, the Mini Convertible benefits from Mini’s latest interior. The centre console is dominated by a large 9.5-inch, completely round touchscreen which looks sublime and mostly works a treat. There are some lovely texture and material choices, such as the playful fabric strip on the steering wheel and the knitted textile dashboard trim.

Seven driving modes, or ‘Experiences’ are available, including the sporty Go-Kart mode and a Personal mode that can display a picture that you upload via the Mini app on the car’s touchscreen. Mini’s app can also be used as the car’s key, if you wish.

The fabric roof can be opened 40cm, like a sunroof, or fully. The roof takes 18 seconds to fully open and 15 seconds to close, at speeds of up to 19mph. Boot space stands at 160 litres with the roof down, or 215 litres with the roof up.

Two 2.0-litre petrol engines are available: the C, with 163hp and a 0-62mph time of 8.2 seconds; and the S, which ups the ante to 204hp and a 6.9-second 0-62mph time. Both will return about 42mpg with a light right foot.

Like the rest of the Mini lineup, there are three trim levels to choose from. Classic is first, with Exclusive and Sport adding extra trimmings. The Exclusive adds luxury, the Sport adds a racier look and a few too many John Cooper Works badges.

Stepping up to the S engine costs £4,400, while upgrading to Exclusive and Sport trims cost £2,200 and £3,500 respectively. A top-spec Convertible S Sport costs a whisker under £35,000.

For the first time since 2015, the new Mini Convertible will be assembled in Britain, at Mini’s Plant Oxford factory.
