What is an ultra-low-emission vehicle?

An ultra-low-emission vehicle (ULEV) is a car or van that emits less than 75 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre (75g/km) driven. This could be a fully electric car, a plug-in hybrid or range-extender, or a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle. Some ULEVs are eligible for a grant from the government, making them cheaper to buy. The plug-in car grant (PiCG) used to apply to some ULEVs, but now only applies to motorbikes, vans, trucks, taxis and wheelchair-accessible ULEVs.
