What is a car spoiler?
A car spoiler is usually attached to the bootlid to control the airflow over the rear of the car. In race cars and high-end sports cars, a spoiler is used to increase downforce on the rear wheels and improve grip at higher speeds. A spoiler creates drag if you're aiming for top speed rather than cornering ability, though. While a spoiler will usually be fitted for aerodynamic reasons, some drivers fit a spoiler to their car just for the cosmetic appeal. A spoiler fitted to a front bumper is typically called a splitter.
