What is the DVLA?

The DVLA is the UK's Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, which deals with all car tax payments, vehicle registrations and driver licensing. As well as issuing driving licences, the DVLA is also the agency that you need to contact when you sell a car – they'll also issue you a logbook (V5) when you buy a new one. You'll also pay them your vehicle excise duty (VED) or road tax as it's more commonly known. Did you know that the DVLA collects more than £7 billion in VED every year? They'll also sell you a private registration plate if you're so inclined, and also add points to your licence when you've been naughty behind the wheel.
