What is a rear parking camera?
A rear parking camera, otherwise known as a reversing, rear-view or backup camera, is a camera mounted on the back of the car. This camera is typically linked to the infotainment screen and, when you select reverse gear, a display will come up on the screen showing the view from the camera. On most cars with a reversing camera, the display includes guidance lines to make it easier for the driver to visualise where the back of the car is in relation to surrounding vehicles and objects. Some high-spec cars come with a few different cameras around the car, and the car's systems can link their displays together to create a 'bird's eye view' of the car, which also shows obstacles to the sides and front of the car. Be aware that some cars include a rear parking camera but not parking sensors – so they'll show any obstacles behind you but won't warn you of their proximity.
