What is a NM (newton metre)?

A NM (newton metre) is a measure of an engine's torque, directly comparable to LB FT, but using metric units. Torque is how hard an engine can turn the car's wheels, which is why diesel engines with lots of torque are popular with drivers who tow or regularly carry lots of passengers and cargo.
