What is Vehicle Excise Duty (VED)?
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) is usually referred to colloquially as 'road tax', although VED is a tax on the vehicle rather than on the road. For cars registered from April 2017 onwards, first-year VED is based on the car's emissions and is rolled into the price of the car, while after that VED is set at a standard rate.
