What is a Grand Tourer?
A Grand Tourer – often called a GT car – is a type of premium, high-performance car. Grand Tourers have a deep, romantic association with long, scenic drives, and are usually the preserve of those with discerning taste and deep pockets. There isn't a strict definition of what makes a GT car but they're usually long two-door coupes – sometimes with just two seats, sometimes with a small pair of rear seats. Examples of GT cars include the BMW 8 Series, Aston Martin DBS and the appropriately named Maserati GranTurismo.
Note that the letters 'GT' are often used on performance cars to simply mean 'sporty'. Models like the Kia Stinger GT saloon or the Renault Twingo GT hot hatch evoke the performance spirit of the GT name rather than the actual body style.
