What is a car's suspension?
A car's suspension connects the body to the wheels and absorbs bumps from the road, while ensuring the tyres have the maximum possible grip with the road surface. Suspension parts include springs, shock absorbers, struts, dampers and linkages, while the tyres can also be considered part of the suspension as tyres can have a huge impact on how the car drives.
Usually, comfort-oriented cars will use their suspension to cancel out or 'sail' over broken road surfaces, while sporty cars have firmer suspension to improve how the car handles around corners – with impacts from the road being more noticeable. Which one is best depends on what you want from a car.
