What is a head-up display?

A head-up display (HUD) is a little slice of fighter-jet technology in your car. It projects a simple, high-contrast display onto the base of your windscreen that includes key information such as speed and cruise control settings. You won't find lots of distracting graphics – it's just designed to flag up the most important info in your peripheral vision, hopefully reducing the amount of time you spend looking away from the road at your driver's instrument cluster. It works by burying an upwards-facing screen behind your driver's dials – this then reflects off the windscreen to your eyes free from any glare from the sun.
