Suzuki Swace buying guide

About the Suzuki Swace

The super-sensible, British-built Suzuki Swace will certainly appeal to your rational side. Up to 63mpg is achievable if you drive in a relaxed way – which is where the Swace shows its best side as it’s softly sprung and refined too.

Suzuki treated the Swace to a facelift in 2023 and, while styling changes are limited, newer Swaces get a more powerful engine (that’s no less efficient than before) and extra standard equipment. From 2024, Suzuki also added a much better infotainment system.

What versions of the Suzuki Swace are there?

Choosing a Swace is easy – it only comes as an estate. There’s just the one engine available and two trim levels. You can think of it as the greatest hits of the Corolla range.

What features does the Suzuki Swace have?

As standard, the Suzuki Swace gets luxuries such as adaptive cruise control, heated seats, two-zone climate control and digital dials. Choose the Ultra trim for extra driver assistance tech – including blind-spot monitoring – and wireless phone charging. There’s also a touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto phone connectivity.

The 596-litre boot is competitive with the class best, and is more than enough for a family’s holiday luggage.

Is the Suzuki Swace a good car?

If you’re happy with a car that strives to be sensible and practical rather than overtly stylish, the Suzuki Swace is a top choice. It’s nippy, very practical, fantastically economical and surprisingly well equipped. Piggybacking Toyota’s powertrain means the Swace will be reliable, too, and somehow you can get all of this in a used Swace for less than in an equivalent used Corolla.

Suzuki Swace engine range explained

Suzuki Swace 1.8 Hybrid

The Swace’s only engine choice was heavily updated when the car was refreshed in 2023. Over the previous 122hp version of this engine, the new setup is noticeably more powerful with 140hp – mainly thanks to a beefier electric motor. Kick back and drive gently, and you’ll be rewarded with well over 60mpg and low fuel costs. Around town, the Swace can cover short distances without using the engine at all, even though its battery doesn’t need to be recharged by plugging in.

Suzuki Swace FAQs

Yes, the Suzuki Swace is made in Toyota’s Burnaston factory in Derbyshire, UK. The two cars share the majority of parts because Toyota and Suzuki are currently in an alliance. The Suzuki Across, a rebadged Toyota RAV4, is another product of this.

Yes, the Suzuki Swace is what’s known as a full or self-charging hybrid. It has a petrol engine, plus an electric motor and a small battery, and the car’s computer brain can juggle the two power sources for best efficiency. You don’t need to plug in the Suzuki Swace – the battery recharges from engine power and from energy scooped up while you’re braking.

Besides the mechanically identical Toyota Corolla Touring Sports, you’ll be looking at other smaller estates like the SEAT Leon Estate, Ford Focus Estate and Kia Ceed Sportswagon. But the Suzuki/Toyota pair stand out by offering a hybrid powertrain with excellent fuel economy.
