Vauxhall is undergoing something of a reinvention since being taken over by Peugeot-Fiat parent company, Stellantis.
Recent additions to the Vauxhall range have super-sharp styling and a distinctive front-end 'vizor' inspired by the Firenza model of the 1970s. Many of the typical Vauxhall hallmarks remain unchanged though – most importantly, the brand's competitive pricing and generous equipment lists.
This guide walks you through Vauxhall's new and used cars, including its selection of hatchback and SUV models.
Vauxhall SUV range explained
Vauxhall Crossland & Crossland X
The Vauxhall Crossland – and the older but mostly identical Crossland X – would rather you called them SUVs. That's despite having high-roof proportions closer to MPVs and having replaced the Meriva MPV in the brand's lineup. Regardless of how you classify the Crossland, however, you can't argue with the amount of cabin space you get for the money, undercutting practical rivals like the Skoda Kamiq and Ford Puma.

Vauxhall Mokka
Compared with older Mokka models, the latest Vauxhall Mokka wears a much sharper suit, with its distinctive 'vizor' fascia and 'floating' roofline. It's a little smaller than its predecessors, so isn't quite as practical, but you'll appreciate the extra space if you're trading up from a Corsa. You'll find a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine shared with Peugeot and Citroen cars under the bonnet, or you can opt for a zippy battery-powered version.

Vauxhall Mokka X
The Vauxhall Mokka X is no longer sold new but offers fantastic value on the used market. It's more practical than the Mokka that replaced it, with more space for rear passengers and a slightly bigger boot. There are trade-offs, not least the fact it features Vauxhall's older and less distinctive styling inside and out, but the value for money on offer means it might make an ideal used family car.

Vauxhall Frontera
One of two recent SUV additions to the brand's lineup, the new Vauxhall Frontera revives an old nameplate from the brand's past. The new model is bang up to date, however, with a choice of either a mild-hybrid petrol engine or a fully electric model with a 44kWh battery pack shared with the new Citroen e-C3 Aircross. The latter should achieve a range of roughly 190 miles with the ability to fast charge at up to 100kW.

Vauxhall Grandland
The new Vauxhall Grandland is the other newcomer in the brand's lineup. This is a noticeably different car to the Grandland it replaces, with a much more premium look inside and out, and the option of either full-hybrid or fully electric power under the bonnet. Range for the battery-powered model is around 320 miles on a full charge, while a bigger battery option could arrive later that can cover more than 400 miles.

Vauxhall Grandland/Grandland X
All eyes might be on the new model, but the old Vauxhall Grandland – plus the pre-facelift Grandland X – still make great sense as used cars. These models were already competitive on price compared with rivals like the Nissan Qashqai and Kia Sportage but, on the used market their affordability is even more evident. It's no bargain-basement special either, with plenty of standard equipment and optional plug-in-hybrid engines.

Vauxhall Adam
The Vauxhall Adam was the brand's answer to the Fiat 500. As such, it's a super-small car but has some snazzy design details to lift it above similar economy-focused models. You'll find attractive upholstery, flashes of interior colour and chrome detailing to help mark this compact option out. Practicality – clearly – isn't one of the Adam's strong suits, so it works best as a car for single or couple buyers.

Vauxhall Viva
If the Adam above aims to offer you a little extra desirability for your money, the Vauxhall Viva focuses instead on offering stripped-back, affordable motoring. There are very few frills in the Viva's cabin – mainly just a stereo to keep you entertained and A/C to keep you cool – but it's one of the more spacious options at the low-cost end of the market. You can't buy these new anymore, so you'll be looking for a keenly priced used example.

Vauxhall Corsa
The Vauxhall Corsa has been locked in stiff competition with the Ford Fiesta for years but with the blue oval finally throwing in the towel, it now has the small hatchback market mostly to itself. It hasn't rested on its laurels, with the most recent Corsa being better to drive and easier to live with than ever before. This is partly thanks to the fully featured infotainment system, and partly thanks to its punchy 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine.

Vauxhall Astra
Like the Corsa, the Vauxhall Astra has spent most of its life fighting fiercely for sales against rivals. The latest Astra is hoping style will help it stand out in this crowded market. Like other Vauxhalls, the 'vizor' front end is present and correct, but it's paired with angular, almost '80s-inspired bodywork, giving the car a much sharper look than previous models. Under the bonnet, there's petrol, plug-in-hybrid and battery-powered options.

Vauxhall Insignia
Technically speaking, the Vauxhall Insignia is actually a very long hatchback because its rear windscreen lifts up with the bootlid. However, it still has a more traditional 'three-box' silhouette, so most buyers will think of it as a saloon. It's no longer sold new but you'll find plenty on the used market, many of which come with long-legged diesel engines that offer long driving ranges and heaps of effortless shove when accelerating.

Vauxhall estate range explained
Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer
The Astra's regular hatchback bodystyle means you get a good amount of passenger room but only an average amount of boot space. Speccing the Astra Sports Tourer means you get a long-roofed estate bodystyle, which sees the cargo space jump from 422 litres to 597 litres, without even accounting for the extra space above the parcel shelf. Everything else is the same as the Astra, with the same petrol, plug-in or fully electric options.

Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer
Considering the standard Insignia is already fairly practical, the jump in cargo space by swapping to the Sports Tourer estate is fairly modest. Capacity grows from 490 litres to 560 litres, although the estate has an extra helping of storage above the parcel shelf not shown by these figures. Again, little else changes, with the Sports Tourer having same plush cabin, refined driving experience and long equipment list as the regular Insignia.

Vauxhall Combo Life
If you just need the maximum amount of space for your money, check out the Vauxhall Combo Life. Under the skin, it's basically a Vauxhall Combo compact van, but with a second row of seats and rear windows. Its practical bones means there's immense amounts of cabin space, with a huge, tall boot and three proper Isofix points across the rear row. You don't lose mod-cons, however, with the usual infotainment options available up front.
